Week 13
Delays Long story short I’ve had a week of successfully pushing off the work I need to do in Unreal. On one hand I can blame it on work or how my neck randomly started to really hurt (as if I’d pulled it) mid week.
However, I’ve had more than enough time today to make headway on my projects and yet…here we are.
It’s not that I haven’t made progress this week but just that my day today was not used well.

Week 12
Refactoring Continues This past 2 weeks has seen a the completion of the refactoring work for the zombie character.
In addition to the original logic, I’ve now am utilizing the physics body of the character.
This was another experiment where I knew that this technique would be helpful, but my total lack of experience held me off from actually starting. But I’m glad I did.
Given this new system, it is quite satisfying when the zombie is killed.

Week 11
Refactoring So, this will be my first entry that’s actually been on time in awhile.
I spent the entire week refactoring the zombie enemy’s blueprint logic into C++. Overall this was a straightforward process, what made it difficult is just figuring out some of the unique things that must be done in order to translate otherwise “simple” nodes into C++.
One notable example is how timers are utilized in BP vs C++.

Week 10
Getting Back In The Rhythm As I mentioned yesterday, there’s really not much to show right now. I’m making decent progress transferring the Blueprint logic into C++ so far.
As I’m doing this, I think it’ll be sometime before I am able to fully understand when to use Blueprints, C++ or a mix.
For now, I like the idea of prototyping and figuring out things in BP to translate them into C++ afterwards.

Taking On Just Enough Although I made some major strides in my gave development journey this week, very little will be visible.
In all honesty there were a few hours where I could have worked on my game, but instead did something else. However, even if I did put those hours in (and I definitely should have) there would be little to show visually.
Currently I’m working to migrate all the blueprint logic I’ve set up for the enemy character into c++.

Week 08
Progress Admist The Chaos Long story short, I’ve had one of the most insane weeks in recent memory. Work alone was bad enough but a number of other unforseen circumstances all perfectly aligned to ensure I had no time to work on my game.
Despite it all, I’ve managed to enough progress to complete a major piece of the game.
Game Updates This week saw me completing the hit reaction piece for the zombie characters.

Talk About Procrastination Not sure what it is but I keep pushing these out later and later. Had I not written this today well…it would have been actually a total miss.
I hate to use work as the excuse but it certainly is quite draining, especially when its intense like this week. However I am grateful that I get to work on my game this weekend.
Time seems to have a strange quality to it.

Week 06
Thursday Is The New Last Sunday You know, at this point I should just adjust these to come out mid week. But let’s see if I can’t shift things around.
Leading up to this post there was one part I was struggling with. More specifically, it was diving deep into a tutorial video on root motion animation.
There were some very severe mental barriers present when I was originally considering the video.

Week 05
Busy Days I’ve had a particularly busy week at work. That said, I’ve stil managed to make some progress in my game.
Although if I am being honest, it’s quite frustrating seeing how little progress I’ve managed to make.
In these times, I try to remember and look back to see how far I’ve traveled. And although it doesn’t totally resolve the frustration, it’s enough to reduce the intensity.
Game Updates This past week and some-odd days saw me focus on AI.

Brains Are Weird I am typing this post on my new split ergonomic keyboard and man am I having a hell of a time. That previous sentence took me over a minute to write.
Given the new layout of the keyboard, I suddenly feel as if my brain is getting muscle cramps. I keep feeling the battle between my muscle memory, gliding my fingers to where they “should” go and the unexpected jolt of seeing an unexpected character show up.
